Feasting On Asphalt 2: Alton Brown Rides Again!

Alton and his crew were spotted in Natchez, Mississippi at a local blues festival filming for their upcoming FOA2! I can't wait for all of the Good Eats and good scenery they dig up this time around. The first series was so fascinating and included such a wonderful slice of America and I'm sure this one will do equal justice to local cuisine up and down the Mighty Miss!

“We’re trying to discover the authentic,” Brown said. “We’re concerned about the homogenization of culture, especially food culture.

“We’re looking for the real. We figured the river was a good place to do that.”

Here's a link to the article in the Natchez Democrat newspaper!

Alton Brown mixes up some healthy salad dressings

Here's an article I ran across with some Alton Brown recipes. Seems he's always got an extra dish or two up his sleeve! Honey-Leomn Tea and Orange Poppy Seed are the dressing in this listings. Alton has formulated (sounds more Altonesque than created) these two dressings to contain less oil by reducing acidity.

American Heart Association & Alton Brown : Face the Fats

It seems like Alton BRown is always up to something; often even more than I thought humanly possible. In between filming episodes of Good Eats and Iron Chef America, preparing for Feasting on Asphalt II, and traveling around the country as a speaker, Alton has developed a few recipes especially for the American Heart Association's Face the Fats program. Dressing, pizza, and pie are on the list so far. You can follow this link to the recipes on the AMA website. I assume these will be quite a bit healthier than the Miller Lite Superbowl selection!

Straight Up Good Eats

The espresso episode was a nice change of pace for Alton Brown; then again isn't every episode? As much as I love the witty banter and diverse array of characters Alton brings to the show I also enjoy when he leaves all the clutter behind and focuses on a single topic. This past week reminded me of many of his older shows; particularly coffee brewing. Of course even then he had Chuck as a sidekick.

Alton whittled his way down to one espresso machine and I managed to locate it through the wonders of the internet. The Saeco 30013 Traditional. It comes in black (like in the show) or the ever popular stainless steel for about $300. Not something I would rush out and buy, but it has a lot of features, seems to get pretty consistent good ratings by its owners, and isn't a bad price for an espresso machine that has so many good qualities.

This season has been a new adventure every week. We've seen the insanely happy Alton, more refrigerator lady, new roles for Deb, and now we are treated to the everyday, plain ol' Alton. This is the guy we know from Feasting on Asphalt cruising around town with Chris Cognac. Speaking of.....it looks like Alton has a busy year already; more Good Eats episodes in production and the next FOA coming this summer!
