To my surprise, while I was feeding my 9 month old breakfast and frying pork chops at the same time, I heard mention of Alton Brown on the TV in the background! This is the second time I've seen Alton this past week and I really don't watch all that much TV lately. The first time was Saturday night while watching the Suze Orman show. There was a Heifer International commercial starring Alton. He's been affiliated with that charity for years, but this was the first time i had seen a commercial. The second time was today on the Morning Show with Mike and Juliet.
The feature was on Valentine's Day recipes, but of course Alton managed to create a fun and educational scene! He discussed, with the usual props and humor, how the tongue tastes salt and sweet, then moved over to the food for a demonstration. His piece on salt was a good expansion on his mention of it during this week's orange sherbet feature. He also pulled out a blowtorch and scorched the tops of some chocolate covered cookies.
Here's a link to the Alton Brown segment on the M&J show (takes a little bit to load)
Another link to some additional Alton recipes on the M&J site. Lemon drops, chocolate Russian, salted carmel apple rings, and Kosher salt frosted peanut brittle.
