Good Eats Poll: How Much Longer Will it Last?

With the 10th anniversary of Good Eats coming up I've been wondering how much longer will it last.  Alton Brown is obviously a creative genius, but Food Network has been moving more towards the reality show theme for nighttime entertainment.  Luckily, Alton has been doing other projects, such as Iron Chef America, along with his own specials.  Personally, I give the show somewhere in the 2-4 year range with the way current FN lineups are going; maybe even a shift to weekends.  I'm really eager for AB to crank out some more Feasting shows though!

So, what do you think?  How much longer can Alton keep Good Eats going strong?  I have a poll set up at the left; vote away!

AB is the only Food Network show that I watch since they changed their lineup a year or two ago. I used to watch Emeril, Rachel and others.

I've stopped watching Food Network altogether because of their ridiculous reality shows. I bought Good Eats on DVD and try to catch newer ones on the internet because I hate FN so much mow. I really think they're going in the wrong direction and this short stint in reality TV is going to backfire before Good Eats goes off the air.

I hope.

Where is the education in a reality show? This network was created to educate and inspire people to cook and try different types of cuisine. Altons show does just that. Would be a big loss in my opinion.

I'd sure hate to see Good Eats leave the network. I am among those that are tired of all the reality shows on all the networks. Too much contentious behavior. I like to relax and enjoy an informative show like Alton's.

I agree with some of the previous postings (the reality themed shows get old real fast).

However, I think how long Good Eats continues might also depend upon how long AB wants to do the show.

And I do enjoy those 'Feasting on' shows. They're well done and interesting.

I have to say I can't really blame FN for the direction they're taking. With DVRs becoming more standard issue people can catch up on the "standard cooking shows" that are aired during the day at any time. Face it, Barefoot Contessa and the Semi-Ho just can't compete in primetime.

Lucky for us Good Eats is quirky enough and non-traditional enough to maintain a primetime foothold. And since Alton has become FN's go-to emcee I think he has enough leverage to keep his show going as long as he wants.

Judging from Alton's talk in Nashville this weekend, he could totally go in a new direction and have tons topics for new episodes.

His fish demo was great. I learned much! And he certainly could get a lot of mileage from that topic alone.

I think the problem will be if FN wants to keep a smart show like his on their channel.

Glad to see so many responses from avid AB fans! I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who watched FN for cooking shows anymore :-)
Alton definitely has enough material, and creativity, to keep going. I'm glad to see him involved in Iron Chef, etc. and creating a good base as a host figure in the Network as well. Heck, look at Bobby Flay. That guy's everywhere!

Good Eats will last for as long as Alton wants it to, plain & simple. :)

The "competition" cooking shows are stupid, I want to see more shows that are really about cooking (like Good Eats!)

Out of all the chefs on Food TV Network, Alton Brown is the most knowledgeable about food! He breaks recipes right down to the basics and explains the scientific nature of cooking at it's very best! AB is a go getter, he wouldn't allow "Good Eats" to just end! If you ask me, he should keep it alive and hire me as his guest host and fellow chef!

I LOVE AB -- He's the best show on FN. I watch record every show and keep them for cooking ideas. I love all of his gadgets. What happened to Feasting on Asphalt. That show was excellent too!

@ T.Cali: I think that's a job most of us would love; though I don't know if there's room enough in front of the camera with Alton and all his props/characters :-)

Probably right about that! Hey, one can dream, can't they?

Good Eats must NOT be taken off FN. It is the best show on FN along with "Iron Chef" which he is also a big part of. How about "Feasting on Asphalt". I loved that. What is it with FN...do they want to only have Bobby Flay and Paula Deen shows? I mean they are good but enough is enough. I may not cook exactly like AB but I sure do love watching him and really learning a lot of things. KEEP AB and GOOD EATS!!!

Good Eats? WELL! I think that it is a FN must have. It tops all of the shows. Every recipe from GE I have evver made has been beyond expectations. Some of the recipes form other shows are only good ideas, their actual products are not noteworthy, delicious, or worth the little effort. GE makes me feel like a mad scientist when it comes to food, a way that i can understand it, and do my experimenting from that knowledge.

Good Eats is forever!!!
