From our last poll we see that the majority of fans here would pay somewhere in the range of $0 to $50 to meet Alton Brown, though a whopping 24% of really dedicated fans would pay more than $150. I'd put myself in the lower end category. While I really enjoyed his lecture the other day, I can't bring myself to pay much extra just to say 'hi' to Alton. Sure it would be cool, but I guess I admire him more for his work than for just being a star. I'd much rather sit down for a beer wit the guy and shoot the breeze.
On to this week's poll! I'm sure the majority of you watched Alton's Good Eats 10th Anniversary Special this weekend; and if not will probably catch a re-airing suring the week. Before I get into what I thought of the show, I'd like to see how others rated the performance. Was it more than you could have ever imagined or were you let down? New poll on the left! Vote away!

The ending was weak. I expected way more fro
that pancake cake! But otherwise, I loved the show. Very entertaining.
I was HOPING that the show was indeed going to be special - but was surprisingly disappointed. It started off pretty good - Ted Allen was a good choice to have on-stage with him, but once they started with the Unitasker Challenge, I think it was mostly downhill from there.
I think he was just trying too hard. And was it me or was his voice a bit off? He was kinda raspy it seemed.

The live taping of the show was awesome. The TV special did not live up to what it could have. I hope they release the whole 3hrs of the live show so everyone could get the funny out of it. The TV special missed way too much.
My biggest complaint was that the TV show was too much Alton (hard as that is to believe) and Ted. I think it would have been so much better had they highlighted a lot more of the great bits on the show, particularly those featuring W, Shirley, his other "relatives" etc.
I agree with Mom. In real life, the show was really awesome (and 3 hours long, too). and by the end of the 3 hours, that whole pancake thing seemed a lot more exciting. Also, they cut out a lot of stuff that made the show entertaining, like meeting the other actors and a lot of the talking that happened between the big parts like the fire extinguisher and the game show and stuff. I think editing it into a half hour wasn't a good idea because too much material was left out. they probably should have given themselves at least a whole hour. So I'm only putting "really good" because I know that in real like it was awesome and what was on tv didn't really live up to it.
Of course the show in person would be better.
Too bad the rest of us got stuck with the TV show! Even my 60-year-old mom said it sucked :(.
They were better off not airing the show at all.

The Live show was awesome, but the aired show so just ok. I was surprised they edited out all of the Good Eats moments that were in the live show.
The best part was the Good Eats players and AB as the Colonel IMO. ANd that was cut.
However, cramming 3 hours into 45 minutes isn't easy.
The trivia segment most certainly should've gotten the axe. Mainly because I didn't get to be on the panel ;)
I'm a HUGE good eats fan...enormous Alton Brown fan....but THAT show was pretty much unwatchable. Not at all the witty sometimes dry humor...always quality writing we get from an episode of Good Eats. It really felt like the infomercials of Ron Popeil ("Set it...and Forget it") combined with the creepy over- clapping of an Emeril Lagasse live show. Honestly, it felt like I was watching a one of those motivational gurus on TV. (and...the audience. I don't believe I've seen a more homogenous group in my whole life. Good Eats, you're better than this).
The show was very disappointing. It was overly edited and choppy and never really got into a flow. What brilliant network exec decided that a three-hour live show could be chopped down to 45 minutes of content and a ton of commercials? It's the guy's 10th anniversary for crying out loud. They couldn't give him a 90-minute special on a Saturday night? Jeez.
On a side note, he's too skinny now. I read somewhere that he lost 50lbs, which is awesome, but he needs to put 5 or 10 back on.
Oh the show was an hour? It just felt so short to me. I guess because of how much got cut out heh. my bad.
