On the upside: Lots of Alton Brown and a great Good Eats episode.
On the downside: Stupid Food Network special.
I was really dissappointed with the Dear Food Network Grilling show. I don't know why Food Network feels they have to dumb down a show like that when it's a great opportunity to really pull in their audience. Oh wait, I guess I do. Like other networks, History and Discovery Channels in particular, they have fallen away from their core purpose and are just trying to crank out reality shows to compete for ratings. Good Eats is really the only cooking show left on prime time and I fear for Alton's future. Come on FN! Give Alton a full hour for Good Eats or at least give him some not so dumbed-down airtime for all the people who still watch your network for cooking shows. That's right, I don't want to see another effing cake decorating show.
Well, at least we still have Good Eats and last night's show was a good one. The chicken and pig masks were a little odd, but the two port tenderloin recipes looked good and it was not over complicated like some of AB's concoctions can be. The pork Wellington looked particularly good and I may just have to give it a go this weekend. I'm not big on dried fuit in dishes, so I'll prolly just add some more savory goodness to kick up the flavor.

Tuesday Night Alton Brown Extravaganza
There will be plenty of Alton Brown to go around on Food Network Tuesday night! First, there is a new Good Eats epsiode at 8:30 followed by Dear Food Netowrk Grilling featunring AB at 9:00.
Good Eats: Tender is the Pork will be featuring grilled pork tenderloin and pork Wellington. The grilled tenderloin looks like nice and easy grill fodder while the Wellington would be agreat for a more formal dinner.
All-American Style Grilling is Alton Brown's featured episode of Dear FN Grilling. The majority of the show should be centered on Alton, but there are a couple of other hosts listed under the recipe section such as, Giada and Big Daddy. Alton will be grilling up some burgers and ribs, then breaks out the Dutch oven for a grilled fruit clafoutis.

New Good Eats Episode Tonight: Spaghetti and Meat Sauce
Sounds like a tasty Good Eats show tonight when Alton Brown cooks up spaghetti with meat sauce in a new installment of American Classics! A basic recipe we can all use in our repertoire. But wait, this is Good Eats! There must be a catch!
Looking through the recipe posted on the Food Network site, Alton is putting his somewhat overcomplicated spin on a simple dish. It's going to take you two and a half hours just to get through cooking the bacon, onion with clove and star anise, and then celery and garlic. Two kinds of meat, some wine deglazing, a simmer with evaporated milk and beef broth, yet another pan with garlic cooking for half an hour, then we finally get to some tomatoes. Whew! This had better be the best damn tomato sauce for all the trouble.

New Good Eats Episode Monday: Tamale Never Dies
"Brown. Alton Brown" I'm imagining a definite James Bond theme to the tamale episode; should be entertaining if nothing else. Of course, Good Eats is rarely only entertainment! AB will be cooking up another River Run influenced dish: tamales. I've never been a huge fan, despite having several authentic Mexican establishments nearby, but I'll give tamales another shot. The recipe list on the Food Network site includes both hot tamales (pork) and turkey tamales.
Catch it Monday night at 8PM EST on Food Network.
